Goal Setting : Why There Should be an Aim for Life

Two thousand years ago, the Roman philosopher Seneca said that no wind will be useful to us if we do not know where we want to sail .

And you know what?

He was right ...

We do not have much choice when it comes to the direction of our lives. On the other hand, we will be the ones who will drive the direction of your life, or somebody else will do it for us! There is not something in between.
Unfortunately, it seems to me that only a few people manage to understand. They allow to be taken anywhere and everywhere without any goals and they do not understand why they have to experience things they do not want to.

Living without clearly defined goals is to live without any direction in it. Such a life literally resembles to a ship without a captain left in the mercy that floats on the high seas.

However, when it comes to goals, it is necessary to deal with the phenomenon that is the key factor to success in all areas of life.

It is taking over full responsibility for all our life experiences.

Only when we agree with ourselves, in some way, draw a line and take full responsibility for our life, we will be able to start setting goals and achieve them the proper way.

I understand that that is not an easy thing to do but in fact, it is something that is inevitable.

When it comes to taking responsibility for our lives, we just do not have much choice.

Why?

Because everything that happens in our reality and the result of our choices - whether consciously or unconsciously. Every choice we make is determined by how we think. The way we think depends solely on us and no one else. We are free to choose the way we think.
Whit our thoughts we create our own reality - the message that was left to us thousands of years ago.

So we are always responsible for everything that happens in our lives - the only question is whether we want to accept that responsibility or not.
Those who do not want to accept responsibility for their experiences and continue to navigate life without any goal waiting and hoping for flowers to blossom will spend their lives waiting. Unfortunately, that day will not come because we did not come to this planet without purpose and trusting in a higher power that will do that job for us , but we came with the intention to consciously create what we want.
However, to be able to consciously create our experiences, it is necessary to have goals. Those who choose to take full responsibility for their life experiences, bring in an excellent position from which you can begin to create a life in accordance with their true desires.
So take your time and think carefully what you want. Do you want to be like a ship without direction and float on the high seas, and every time you hit the shore or cliff, blame someone else for what happened or perhaps you want to take control of the direction in which you sail and navigate to where your heart desires?

The newborn child carries within him certain inherited traits. As he grows, these traits develop into elaborate and complicated patterns of reaction to the stimuli he encounters. These patterns are called Emotions. Examples of emotions are love, anger and fear.
Emotions are an important part of a person and aid in this survival. They are the spark which can serve to mobilize his psychic and physical resources. Emotions may be used constructively in dealing with oneself and with others. However some emotions are not used constructively, but are given full rein or are unduly suppressed they may become destructive to the personality.

Positive Emotions 

The following emotions are constructive in their effect upon a person.

Love

An essential emotion in every person is love. It is one of the first needs a child has and is the basis for his physical and emotional security. Without love, the child, who must rely upon others for his needs, has no assurance of life. Children need the love of parents and of other children in the family. Parents need the love of each other and of their children. Adults need the love of their associates. In order for love a flourish there must be a setting of kindness, sympathy, unselfishness and tolerance. The absence of love in a person’s life can lead to unpleasant reactions on his part, such as daydreaming, cruelty or aggressive actions toward other people.

Faith

A belief in and reliance upon some power outside oneself is another basic emotional need. Although individuals conceive this outside power in different ways. It is important for people to believe that the universe and the life in it exist for some useful purpose. The acceptance of this idea becomes an important element in maintaining emotional stability.

Achievement

A sense of personal worth and ability to perform as a useful person in society is another emotional need. Depending upon the situation, one attempts to satisfy this need by performing well scholastically, by doing a job well, by establishing a good home for one’s family or by taking part in activities that are of service to other people. Failure to satisfy this need can lead the person to feel depressed and rejected by his family, friends or colleagues. A person will commonly find more satisfaction in one type of work than in another. Thus the area of endeavor to which he gives himself is of great importance. Various occupations have high social prestige at any given time. Others less prestigious may offer great satisfaction through their contribution to social welfare or to art. Each individual should try to choose an occupation in which he has special interests and abilities.

Negative Emotions

If the person has emotional needs which go unsatisfied, he has to try to make adjustments for them. All of us at times fail to make sufficient adjustment and frustrations and unhappiness result. We react to these unsatisfied emotional needs with various negative emotions.

Anger

Although a normal response to frustration, anger represents a primitive response. It is a “fight” instinct and represents the desire and perhaps the attempt, to aggressively settle an issue by destroying it, attacking it, killing it or in some other way trying to neutralize it. Although all human beings feel angry at times, it is necessary that angry reactions be controlled. If repressed, the anger may afflict us in some other manner. Thus it is important that we learn ways to direct those energies aroused by feelings of anger into constructive activities. A minor irritation may be “worked off” by playing a hard game of tennis, cleaning house or vigorously mowing the lawn.

Fear

Another reaction to emotional frustration is the “flight” instinct or fear. Fear may be resorted to as a way of survival or it may represent the decision to try to evade an issue. Fears, if allowed to develop uncontrolled, can lead to over or under response to a situation-to panicking or to freezing up.

How long before I change my toothbrush?
      The advisable time to replace your toothbrush is after 3 months. When the toothbrush shows signs of wear, it must be replaced even if it hasn’t been 3 months yet. 

Is there a particular brand of toothpaste I should use?
      It doesn’t matter what brand of toothpaste you use as long as it contains fluoride. Check the labels of each brand and look for this ingredient.
How do I brush my teeth the right way?
     
It is advisable to perform short, gentle strokes while brushing as to avoid hitting and irritating the gums. Keep in mind also that you not only brush the teeth that are showing externally, but also those hard-to-reach back teeth called molars. Crowns, fillings, and other restorations are required to be brushed as well.Divide your oral cavity in to 4 quadrants(Upper Right, Upper Left, Lower Left, Lower Right) then follow these steps:

  1. Clean the outer surfaces of your upper right teeth, navigate the toothbrush towards the upper left side in doing so. Keep in mind that the stroke for back teeth or molars should be in circular motion, while the front teeth or incisors should have an up-and-down motion. By doing the said strokes, you are minimizing the chance of having teeth abrasion caused by faulty brushing techniques.
  2. Repeat step 1, this time from the outer surfaces of the lower left side towards the lower right.
  3. Clean the inner surfaces of each quadrant of teeth in the same manner as Steps 1 & 2.
  4. Clean the chewing surfaces to remove food particles stuck in pits and fissures of the teeth.
  5. Brush your tongue to rid off debris and bacteria. This will surely result to a much fresher breath.

How Raw Food and Alkaline Dieting cures Acne

For many years in the past now, the health of the western civilization citizens is considered very poor, weak, and declining every year. On the other side, many cultural groups, that are not a part of this western World, are known to have much better, stronger health in every way.
The focus of these studies revolves around the differences in the way of life between these cultures and the western World. Particularly, the foundation of good health is often, if not every time, directly connected with dietary habits and foods used by a certain population.

Now, to get to the matter at hand, the human skin is nothing more than just another organ. But, the obvious difference is of course that it is on the outside.
Something people often miss out is the fact that the skin is directly connected to many of our inner organs, and as such mirrors the condition and health of them, in many various ways.

Something a lot people in the World have in common is acne.
  • Acne, or acne vulgaris, is a skin disease that manifests itself through seborrhea(scaly red skin), comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), nodules (large papules), pimples, and possibly scarring. Acne affect mostly skin with densest population of sebaceous follicles, such as: the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. 
  • Many dermatologists and doctors are not aware or directly reject the notion, that acne are directly the result of inner health problems, and that they in fact mirror and suggest internal problems. They instead treat only the symptoms of these diseases, mentioned before.  
  • Acne develops as a result of blockages in the follicles. Various plugs are formed this way, from many different reasons, leaving the dermatologists dealing with the current problem, and not focusing on what could cause it.
  • The first focus of the studies is the fact that people living in cultural groups from the third world, or tribal or even barbaric, do not have these skin problems and diseases. 
  • It is with that fact that the research for food related causes began in the first place.
  • The most correct theories would possibly be those who suggest that a person should take care both internally and externally, in dealing with acne. Of course, in practice, this has a 80 to 2- percent ratio, 80% being in favor of foods, because let’s face it, there are only so much you can do for your skin externally.
In my experience, I found that the previous combination of the two ways is the best, with a natural focus on the internal and the foods.  I was never too  susceptible to acne, but I had my share during puberty.   My dietary habits were those of a western civilized man, and somewhere during high school, I started exploring the various different national cuisines and diet programs. I had no problem with my weight, but the health in general was in need of discipline. And so I had luck to be pointed in the right direction, and start to think about foods and my diet.
Ofcourse, it was always the common knowledge that fast food and junk food were bad, and I even remember some theories linking them with acne, even back then.
Changing my diet affected me in so many ways, many of witch I haven’t even notice then. I started eating foods that were closer to their own natural form, with as less processing as possible, often with none.
This is where alkaline foods came into play. Alkaline foods include fruits, vegetables, greens, and sea vegetables. Now eating all this raw, with little or no processing,  changed the whole pallet of my dietary picture. I was immediately without white sugar, without saturated fat, without gluten, hormones… Infact, many of the things that were dominant were now gone, replaced by the pure content of naturally determined proportions in raw foods.
Junk food, fast food, and all these groceries that we are eating today are all loaded with those mentioned components, and on top of that, all foods today have a high number of artificial components, chemicals used for better growth, longer lasting, storing etc…
Eating all that stuff leaves all that toxic waste inside of the human body, even after human metabolism. A lot of these toxins remain in the body and form a kind of slime, that can be concentrated in various places. For instance, if it concentrates in the lungs, that person suffers from asthma, or if it’s in sinuses they are inflamed, etc… So, the question now is, doesn’t our organism have the means to expel all these unwanted matters. It does of course, but not all of them can be dissolved or handled by our organism, in fact, a lot of them can’t, and the rate in witch our organism responds and cleanses it self from them is much slower and it is hindered by the constant consuming of these foods, often in very large quantities.
So, now since this slime is rampant in our organism, the body is looking for all ways to expel or burn it. That’s why those people often have short term inflammations, increases in body temperatures,  sweat, and of course acne.
Somewhere during this process, when the body needs cleansing and it starts doing it through the skin, our pores and all those channels  become plugged and inflame. It can be caused by the excessive mass of toxins wanting to get out, or maybe the person simply has tightened skin, or maybe both.
So now you have toxic matters plugged somewhere in your skin, close to the surface.
Now one other thing many doctors miss out on is that these toxic matter, this slime, thought poisonous to us, is a feast for various parasites and bacteria or viruses. In fact, this is how we attract them in the first place, we carry their food inside of us, sort to say. When these microorganisms start doing their part, that’s when the real problem occur. That’s where you get your scars, large inflammatory acnes and various terrible problems.

So, by stopping the intake of toxic foods, and by eating natural and healthful groceries, I’ve managed to free my organism of all those substances, and make my life easier in many ways. And my skin also showed a 100% recovery. Now all I need to do is to take moderate care of it, and I never have problems with acne.

Appendicitis

What is appendicitis?
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. The appendix is located in the right lower abdomen at the lower end of the colon. (See Figure 1) To this date, researchers still have not found the purpose of the appendix.

The appendix is a small sack like structure that protrudes from the colon wall. This sack can become filled with debris and colon material and become inflamed and infected. This can cause intestinal blockage and the infection can spread to the entire abdomen.

This condition is most common among older children and younger adults between the ages of 10 and 30 years of age. The symptoms can often mimic other conditions and are hard to diagnose. Many appendicitis sufferers will put off treatment too long and the complication of untreated appendicitis is sepsis, where the infection enters the bloodstream. This complication requires extensive antibiotic treatment in the hospital and can be fatal.
Any infection or inflammation in the appendix is an emergency and anyone with signs or symptoms of appendicitis must be evaluated right away. This will prevent serious complications and the spread of the infection to other parts of the body. The pus resulting from appendicitis can also spread throughout the abdominal cavity, resulting in a condition called peritonitis. (See Figure 2)

What causes appendicitis?
It is not completely understood why appendicitis occurs. The condition may be the result of a secondary bacterial infection after someone has had a virus. Viral infections of the abdomen can cause the intestines to slow down and become blocked preventing the appendix from emptying itself. The contents then become stagnant and allow for bacterial growth. This is where many people may avoid medical care, thinking they just have a stomach virus.
Normally the appendix is able to clean itself out periodically with normal bowel movements. If the opening to the appendix becomes blocked then it can become infected quickly and the infection can spread in a matter of hours. (See Figure 3)

On rare occasion, intestinal tumors or cancer can be the cause of appendicitis. Also, abdominal surgery in other areas of the abdomen can cause scar tissue that can constrict and block the area of the appendix. This is why post-surgical patients are encouraged to stay on a clear liquid diet until bowel sounds fully return after surgery. Eating with a “sleepy” bowel can cause obstruction.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis?
Appendicitis symptoms can come slowly and be vague. This is why many people delay evaluation and treatment. The first symptom is usually pain around the belly button. Some people also experience pain in the left lower abdomen, leading them away from the thought of appendicitis. This is called referred pain. Other symptoms can include;
  • ·         Pain in the lower right abdomen 12 to 24 hours after belly button pain starts
  • ·         Minimal or no appetite
  • ·         Nausea
  • ·         Vomiting
  • ·         Low grade fever 99◦ F to 101◦ F
  • ·         Pain with coughing or sneezing
  • ·         Chills
  • ·         Diarrhea
  • ·         Constipation
  • ·         Pain on rebound when the abdomen is pressed
  • ·         Not passing gas
  • ·         Sudden pain and then relief (In cases of rupture)

These symptoms are especially serious if they follow recent abdominal surgery. This could indicate an intestinal blockage and appendicitis is a secondary infection. If you have any symptoms of appendicitis, it is extremely important not to have anything to eat or drink on the way to the hospital. They will want you fasting in case you need emergency surgery.

How is appendicitis diagnosed?

Appendicitis can be diagnosed with imaging studies such as; CT scan, abdominal x-ray and ultrasound. The doctor may also order these lab tests to check for infection and electrolyte loss due to vomiting or diarrhea:

Complete Blood Count Checks for the amount of white blood cells in the bloodstream and is a strong indicator of infection in the body. This test will help the doctor make the decision if the patient needs antibiotic treatment in the hospital prior to surgery.

Renal Panel Checks the electrolytes in the body such as; sodium and potassium. These electrolytes are lost from vomiting and diarrhea resulting in dehydration. People who lose these electrolytes need to have them replaced quickly.

Urinalysis Appendicitis and Kidney stones or bladder infections can mimic each other. The doctor will run a urinalysis to help confirm that the symptoms are truly appendicitis and not a urinary cause. This can also help the doctor see the degree of dehydration in a patient.

How is appendicitis treated?

Uncomplicated appendicitis is treated with surgery as soon as the patient is stable. If the infection has not spread to other areas of the abdomen or the bloodstream, a surgeon will remove the appendix. This is usually a quick procedure and the patient is released from the hospital within one day.

If the appendicitis becomes complicated by the spread of infection, the patient will need to be hospitalized on intravenous antibiotics until the infection is cleared. This could take days and up to weeks depending on how bad the infection became. This is usually the result of delaying evaluation and treatment.
