COVID19 Ayurvedic Treatment

Post a Comment

Ayurveda is a famous medicine system in India and widely practiced around the world as an alternative medicine system. It is well known for its medicines derived from mother nature and often believed as free from side-effects. During COVID19 pandemic, when none of the medicine systems have got any effective medicine against SARS-CoV-2 and most of the treatments are symptomatic, a number of people started to look towards Ayurveda with some hope. A number of Ayurvedic medicines were launched with a promise to boost the immune system.

During year 2020, most of the advertisement industry was focused towards immunity. Every product has got a hint of immunity in it. During June 2020, Patanjali Ayurveda launched its Corona medicine, named "Coronil", claiming it as both preventive and treatment medicine. A number of non-believers questioned both the medicine and ayurveda at that time. In Feb 2021, owner of Patanjali Ayurveda, Swami Ramdev appeared with a scientific research paper and claimed Coronil as 'first evidence-based medicine for Covid-19 by Patanjali'.

In May 2021, Swami Ramdev and his medicine Coronil, attracted a lot of controversy when he alleged that the modern medicine system (allopathy) has killed millions of people as most of the treatment methods turned out to be ineffective. His allegation were on the ineffectiveness of plasma-therapy, remdesivir injection, hydroxychloroquine and many other medicines. Heavy dosage of Antibiotics and Steroids prescribed by doctors also lead to side-effects like black-fungus, as these medicines suppressed the normal functioning of immune system.

Such allegations on Allopathy and Ayurveda are not new in India, but with their preconceived notions some people are not ready to accept that Ayurveda is also a science. No matter how old it is, it is a part of every household in India. Today when modern medicine, hospitals and doctors are not available in rural parts of the population, ayurveda and alternative medicine are only hope.

COVID19 Ayurvedic Treatment

Back from controvercies to actual topic. Is there any ayurvedic treatment for COVID19 ? There are a number of immunity booster products by different manufacturers, who claim their products to be ayurvedic. Some Ayurvedic doctors came a little forward and told that they can treat COVID19 patients through ayurvedic medicines. Patanjali's Coronil medicine is also one of such medicines backed by some scientific research. However practitioners of modern medicine have different views, and they claim that research behind these ayurvedic medicines can't be considered genuine.

We are watching this blame game drama of different medicinal systems in an era when we all know that till now there is no sure-shot medicine against COVID19. All the treatment are symptomatic, but still everyone is trying to prove his own supremacy. An appropriate approach to fight this disease should be to treat those who believe in that medicinal system, as in the end it is our own immune system that fights this viral infection. Our belief plays an important role on how a medicine affects our body. A medicine with no faith can sometimes do nothing, while even a placebo consumed with faith can do magic.
