More urination is usually considered as a signature statement of untreated diabetes. But have you ever wondered why diabetic people urinate more ? How many times does a healthy person go to pee in a day ?

It varies from person to person and also depends on the climatic conditions. 4 to 10 times per day is considered normal. Some people drink more water so they urinate more. Some people sweat more, so the urinate less. We often urinate more during winters as we sweat less due to lower temperature.

Why diabetic people urinate more ?

Diabetic people have excess amount of glucose in their blood, either due to lack of insulin or due to insulin resistance in body. To filter out this excess blood glucose, our kidneys try to filter it out through urine. It not just make us urinate more but also causes work overload on our kidneys. It also make us prone to dehydration. Regular dehydration can lead to digestive problems and vision problems.

  • Kindney Infection : Kidney Infection and UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) can also cause frequent urination. This type of urination is usually also accompanied with burning sensation in urinary tract.
  • Pregnancy: It can also result more frequent urination. As the fetus grows and occupies more space in mother's womb, the urinary bladder gets lesser space to expand, which results in more frequent urge to urinate.
  • Overactive bladder: It is a harmless medical condition in which more urge to urinate is also accompanied with lack of control, which results in unintentional loss of urine.
  • Anxiety: Most of the people urinate more when they are under anxiety. Our muscles tense up during anxiety and put pressure on bladder which results in more frequent urination.

How to control excessive urination due to diabetes ?

Treating the diabetes will have direct effect on the urination. If you can control your blood sugar with controlled diet, lifestyle changes and regular workout then it will definitely affect your urination count.
